We’re in 2015 and if you haven’t figured it out by now, you need to be on social media. There is a difference of just being on social media and being on social media, while being social the right way. There are multiple things you need to do, but right now I’m going to tell you about the main and most important thing you need to do, in the early stages.
Consistency with your name online is the best thing you can do for yourself. Too many times, I find my self in a scenario like this. An artist tells me to look them up. Eventually I tell them I tried Googling them and I couldn’t find anything. That’s when I get something like this back, ‘oh no, you won’t find me online with my artist name, online I go by Willy Wonk The Simba’ (just an example). How am I suppose to find anything about you, if you introduce me with your artist name and then online you go by something completely different. That’s where you are losing half, if not more off your potential fans.
I don’t care what you have to do, (with the exception of underscores and periods, they’re never a good thing, in my opinion) you find a name online that at least somewhat matches your artist name (if you can get just your artist name that’s even better) and you can get it on all the online platforms that you use. You will save yourself a lot of explaining on what username is for what platform and how to spell things. Spelling is very important, If you choose to spell something in a unique manner, then just know, your branding awareness job is going to take a little more work. Consistency will result in you showing up more easily on Google.
